Potential is one of the things that separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom. We have a God-given ambition to learn, to grow, and to improve our lives. When we’re kids, everyone asks us, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” And we always have an answer; we aspire to reach our dreams, and we feel invincible.
From the moment of conception, God forms us with unlimited potential: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14). We are born according to God’s plan and for His purposes, and He forms us perfectly so that we have all the potential and abilities that we’ll need to do what He wants us to do.
In fact, Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We are destined to accomplish great things for God. He already has things in mind for us to do to advance His Kingdom and participate in sharing His goodness with others.
When God looks at us, He sees all the potential, talent, and abilities He put inside us; but when we look at ourselves, we often see our flaws and shortcomings. God doesn’t limit us; we are the ones who put limits on ourselves. Instead, we need to believe that He’s called us to be a part of His plan and cooperate with Him by fully developing what He’s put inside of us.
With God on our side, nothing is impossible; we can accomplish anything; nothing is out of reach. Tap into your God-ordained potential and abilities, and encourage others to do the same. Call out the potential that you see in others, then step out in faith and watch what God does through your life.
