You don't have to look very far to find that our world is full of needy, sad, hopeless people. Watching the 10 o’clock news is completely depressing. It seems we’re always hearing about wars and famines and disasters somewhere in the world. And many of us are facing personal problems, from relationships to work to finances, that can really seem overwhelming. It’s easy to lose hope and wonder how to live life to the fullest.
Even though Jesus lived 2000 years ago, He knew that people would need hope and direction about living life to the fullest because of all the negativity and difficulties we would face. In John 10:10 Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
In this Scripture, we notice that Jesus acknowledges that we have an enemy. We cannot ignore this fact, but we shouldn’t focus too much on it either. The truth is there is someone fighting against our desire to live life to the fullest, so we shouldn’t be too surprised when we face troubles and problems. In fact, Jesus even said in John 16:33b, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The key to living life to the fullest involves Jesus. There’s just no getting around this fact. Jesus IS life. He said in John 14:6a, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” It’s impossible to live life to the fullest without Jesus. He brings life to the dead, hope to the desperate, and joy to the depressed.
Jesus wants us to live lives full of joy, hope, and peace despite the circumstances we may be enduring. Even if someone tries to steal our joy, kill our hope, or destroy our faith, we can live life to the fullest in Jesus. He loves to restore the things that the enemy has stolen, killed, or destroyed. In fact, it brings Him great pleasure to bring full life to those who call on His name and trust in His goodness
